Towson University offers free Quit Smoking program for students

with one comment

Towson University and Baltimore County to offer a free smoking cessation program.

Starting on March 8, Towson University will team with the Baltimore County Department of Health to offer a Smoking Cessation Program free of cost to Towson students.

Classes will last for seven weeks and students may sign up for one of the two sections offered each Monday. Expensive nicotine replacement therapies and Chantix prescriptions will be available free of cost for program participants.

“We are able to offer these services for free by partnering with the Baltimore County Department of Health.  The Department of Health’s Tobacco Control program is funded through the state’s Cigarette Restitution Fund Program.  Due to it being a grant program they are required to provide free services and products as paid for by the state.  We are fortunate enough to be one of their locations for which they have agreed to provide free classes, products and medications,” Kate Reeder, the official contact for the program, said.

Maximum capacity is between ten and fifteen students, but only 8 are currently signed up. “Students who miss registration for this class but would like counseling can met with me for one-on-one counseling,” said Reeder.
